WOODVILLE – For Woodville Eagles star quarterback Luke Babin, a move to Nashville next year just isn’t in the cards, after all.
Babin, who had verbally committed to Vanderbilt University to play collegiate ball last October, made a decision last week to commit to Baylor University in Waco.
The 6’3”, 190-lb. QB had a banner year for his junior season, which saw him complete 179 of 284 passes for 3,063 yards, and notch 47 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Babin, who made the announcement on Tuesday via social media, chalked the decision to pivot from becoming a Commodore to a Bear on “a combination of things.”
He told the media that Baylor, under the coaching of head coach Dave Aranda and offensive coordinator/QB coach Jack Spavital, offers a variety of opportunities, including “amazing facilities” and a great campus that is closer to home than Vanderbilt.
Babin, who is on schedule to graduate Woodville High School with the class of 2027, said he has been in touch with the Baylor coaches for nearly two years, and said he is “really excited to be developed by them.”
Babin chalked his success on the field up to being committed to learning the system with his team, as well as the playbook and developing with the rest of the offense. “Every game, I will be more prepared than anyone I go against, and I think this is really important to winning,” he said.
His mother and father, Lucas and Luciana Babin, are “really happy about [his decision to commit to Baylor],” and he said “I feel it’s a system I can develop and be great in.”
