Chester baseball, softball teams enjoy easy week

The Yellowjacket baseball and softball teams had an easy week with it being Spring Break. On Monday April 1 the Lady Jackets defeated Zavalla 27-10. Overall they racked up 19 runs on walks.

Lauren Citrano, Hailey Purvis, and Sydney Brock each collected one hit. Allie Ogden and Hailey Purvis each drove in three runs. Kinsley Barnes earned the win giving up six hits, striking out three and walking five. The Lady Jackets have two games remaining in regular season play. This week on April 9 they face Brookeland at home and then Friday April 12 they host Zavalla for Senior night at 4:15 p.m. 

Yellowjacket baseball faced Burkeville on Tuesday April 2 and picked up an easy 13-0 win. Trayce Knox earned the win for the Jackets surrendering one hit, six strikeouts, and no walks. Waylon Sturrock and Turner Johnson each collected two hits. Jaxon Gay led RBI’s with three. Jesse Bittick and Bradley Davison each had two RBI’s. Bittick also had three stolen bases while Jaxon Gay, and Rex Gilzow each had two.

Tuesday April 9 the Jackets host Brookeland with game time at 4 p.m.

On Friday April 12 they will travel to Zavalla with game time at 6 p.m. On Saturday April 13 the JV will play at home at 1pm vs GSF and at 3pm vs West Hardin. 

The track team participated in the Area track meet on April 3 in Zavalla with several Yellowjackets advancing to the Regional Track Meet. Both boys relay 4x100 and 4x200 teams placed second, which advances them to Regionals. 4x100 team is Jesse Bittick, Jaxon Gay, Kasen Citrano, and Bryson Swanson. The 4x200 team is Jesse Bittick, Jaxon Gay, Kevron Green, and Bryson Swanson. Keighen Green placed first in discus and third in shot put and will go to Regionals for both. Kinsley Barnes placed first in the 100m dash, advancing to Regionals.

Kyli Handley placed third in 300m hurdles advancing her to Regionals, and Allie Ogden will also make the trip, coming in fourth in discus. The Regional Track Meet will be held in Seguin on April 19-20.
