OISD passes bond issue, Onalaska elects new mayor, Corrigan reelects incumbent mayor

A bond issue election to build a new high school in the Onalaska Independent School District overwhelmingly passed – 386 “for” to 147 “against” – in the May 4 uniform election.

Voters in the OISD were voting on the issuance of $42 million for the construction of a new high school facility.

Voters in the City of Onalaska returned Incumbent Mayor James W. Arnett to office for another term. Arnett received 188 votes, or 56.12%, compared to challengers Paul Laverty who received 76 votes, or 22.69%, and Robert F. Simard, who received 71 votes, or 21.19%.

Three people were seeking election to two “at large” positions on the Onalaska City Council held by Kevin Arnett and T.D. Jennings. While Jennings elected not to seek reelection, Arnett did, and others seeking election were J.R. Chance and Kathy Black Lott. Lott and Arnett prevailed, with Lott receiving 198 votes, or 42.86%, and Arnett receiving 144 votes, or 31.17%. Chance received 120 votes, or 25.97%.

Voters in the City of Corrigan returned Incumbent Mayor Johnna Lowe Gibson to office for another term. Gibson received 171 votes to defeat Challenger Thomas Roberts who received 150 votes.
