CHIRENO — The Colmesneil Lady Dogs kept the Chireno Lady Owls’ dreams of a playoff run at bay last Friday, as the Lady Dogs captured a 6-1 win on the opposing team’s field.

The Lady Dogs went right to work early on with a 2-0 lead, from a walk and three straight hits, which remained until the fourth inning with a Lady Owl score.

The pitching of Colmesneil’s Raylee Harris was too much for the Lady Owls’ offense, with just three hits coming off their bats, and only one run, which occurred in the bottom of the fourth, from Chireno senior Payton Johnson.

All in all, Harris struck out 16 batters, and Colmesneil is sitting at number two in the District 23-2A standings, just behind the Lady Tigers of West Sabine.

The Lady Dogs are at a 10-2 record for the season.

The Lady Dogs would advance four more runs in the sixth inning, to seize the win.

Colmesneil’s Danielle Pittman led the Lady Dogs’ offense

Danielle Pittman led the Colmesneil attack against the Lady Owls, with two driven-in runs, and a score.

Jaclyn Butler singled and doubled in four at-bats, while driving in a run. Butler had a 2-for-4 game, with a double and an RBI.

Other Lady Dogs who scored against the Lady Owls were Madalyn Johnson and Emily Park.

The Lady Dogs are playing West Hardin in a bi-district playoff match-up on Thursday, at 7 p.m. at Jasper.
