The Goodrich ISD board met to discuss athletic facilities, cafeteria pricing, and investment options at their regular monthly meeting for October Thursday in the administration building.
In athletic facilities, a slab for the new fieldhouse is complete. The plumbing is also done in the slab, and Goodrich superintendent Daniel Barton said they are only waiting on the building to arrive.
The football field is now crowned, and drainage is being placed that was approved in the last board meeting. That is expected to be finished Friday. The following Monday, ProTech will come in and start to replace the track.
“They’re moving pretty fast there,” Barton said. “The building, they’re looking at the first week of November. It should be in. And if it’s in, they’ll bring their own erection crew. So, it’ll go pretty fast. They expect that, if the building shows up as planned by Thanksgiving, it should be up, the frame, the roof on it, those kinds of things, the metal structure and dried in.”
Barton said a track meet will likely not occur in the spring, with surrounding facilities still under construction.
A new maintenance and transportation liaison began work at Goodrich Monday. He will drive the bus routes to get acquainted with the district.
Prices will be raised for adults who visit the school cafeteria. Students will continue to receive free meals. Currently, the staff price is $4.50 for a meal and $3 for an entree only. Visitors pay $4.75 for the meal and $3 for the entree at lunch. The new prices will be $5.50 for staff lunch and $3.50 for entree only, with $5.75 for visitors and $3.50 for the entree.
Breakfast will rise from a staff price of $3 for entree and the $3.50 visitor price. The new prices will be $3.65 for staff and $3.90 for visitors.
Staff also receives 25 free meals for the year. Student pricing will not change. The price changes for visitors and staff will go into effect immediately.
Finance manager Sarah Bacica said there are new investment opportunities the district will go over in the coming days. Different certificates of deposit rates are currently available for over 4%.
“If we put it in for a 90-day term, you’re looking at 4.14%,” Bacica said. “If you look at a six-month term, you're looking at 4.36%. So if we could maybe move one or two of our CDs, or two or three from the bank, just to have more interest rate, but you’re still at two different banking options.
“No decisions have been made, but the new interest rates are much better. This was not an option in the past, and I don’t believe it’s an option at the current one that we’re currently at.”
