On Saturday at approximately 9 a.m., Polk County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sergeant Rey Davalos was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 190 West in the area of Triple J Lanes while conducting routine patrol duties.

While traveling, Davalos observed a silver 2006 Saab four-door sedan traveling westbound. The Saab crossed into the eastbound lane of travel and entered directly into the path of Davalos’ patrol vehicle.

Davalos immediately took evasive action, swerving to the right in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. Despite his efforts, the Saab struck the driver’s side of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet Tahoe.

Following the collision, the Saab left the roadway and came to rest in the westbound ditch.

Davalos immediately exited his patrol vehicle and checked on the driver of the Saab, who was identified as Jonathan Chandler, 30, of Livingston.

Both Davalos and Chandler sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. Both were transported to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial in Livingston for medical evaluation and treatment.

The Texas Department of Public Safety worked the crash and is in charge of the investigation. Following the investigation, Chandler was issued citations in connection with the collision.
