Registered sex offender Doyle Edwin Mason Jr., 65, was arrested Oct. 23 for failure to comply with registration requirements. During routine, unannounced sex offender residence compliance checks, deputies discovered Mason had intentionally provided an incorrect physical address for his registration.
Mason is a lifetime registered sex offender following a conviction for aggravated sexual assault of a child, with the victim age of 13.
As a lifetime registrant, he is required to register annually and provide accurate residential information to remain in compliance with state law. Accurate address information is essential to maintaining the public sex offender registry, which allows community members to identify registered sex offenders living in their neighborhoods and take appropriate precautions to help protect their children.
Mason was released after a judge set his bond at $25,000.
The sheriff’s department released a statement saying its sex offender monitoring efforts have been strengthened by requiring detectives to provide deputies with a monthly list of residence compliance checks to be conducted. This initiative increases oversight to help ensure registered sex offenders throughout Polk County comply with registration requirements. Deputies will also be out over Halloween to check sex offender residences to determine if houses are decorated in an attempt to attract children for trick-or-treating.
