Ten dogs from the Polk County SPCA were taken to the pavilion at Pedigo Park July 11 for a training event designed to improve their behavior and increase their chances of adoption.
The event was organized by Polk County SPCA Volunteer Sheri Grounds and Travis Yantes, the owner of Lone Star K9 Companion which provides professional dog training in the area.
Upon arrival, the dogs eagerly greeted volunteers with wagging tails as they were released from their kennels. Volunteer handlers from the Polk County SPCA and Lone Star K9 Companion were paired with the dogs and worked through basic obedience and behavior-modification exercises under Yantes’ instruction.
Throughout the session, Yantes demonstrated training techniques and offered guidance and encouragement to each volunteer. The dogs responded well, and the event was considered a success.
Additional training events are planned to help shelter dogs develop the skills they need to become successful companions in their forever homes.
