COLDSPRING — The Trojans hosted the East Chambers Buccaneers for the annual Homecoming game on Friday, and while a king and queen were crowned, and a 104-year-old alum was honored, Coldspring fell 47-18
It was a close first quarter, but shortly after the gun sounded in the second quarter the Buccaneers managed to pull away from the Trojans and never looked back, posting five TDs in the next two quarters to the Trojans’ 1.
Trojan quarterback David Rowe did manage to have a great passing game for the night, including T.J. Johnson’s 58 yards receiving, Landon Ellisor’s 23 yards receiving and Antoine Phillips 10 yards. The passing plays produced 91 yards and 1 TD.
Coldspring had 168 total yards rushing, with Cadyn Barton leading the pack with 94 yards, followed by T.J. Johnson’s 50 yards and 2 TDs. Rowe also had 22 yards rushing.
Between the first and second quarter Nena Faye (Reed) Hopkins, the 1940 Coldspring Class President, was honored on the field. She will be 102 in December. She and several great-grandchildren and family members were welcomed by the Homecoming crowd.
During the halftime show Antoine Phillips and Kynayriah Nixon were named the Coldspring Homecoming King and Queen for 2024.
The Trojans will saddle up the buses and head east to Buna for the next round of District Play.
Shepherd
The Pirates had a tough time with West Orange-Stark Friday, losing 62-16 on the road.
Shepherd posted 270 yards total offense in the effort.
Leading the offense was Preston Stephens will 23 carries for 170 yards, while quarterback Landon Dellinger had 26 yards and a TD, and Braydon White pulled in 3 catches for 58 yards and ran 20 yards for a TD.
