CLEVELAND — It took only 17 seconds for the Shepherd Pirates to storm down the field and post their first touchdown on Friday against the Tarkington Longhorns. From that moment on, the tone was set and the Pirates maintained their undefeated record.
Shepherd won the matchup 48-0.
By the end of the first quarter, the scoreboard lit up at 24-0, and the Pirates never looked back. Shepherd struck every quarter, adding 8 more points in the second, third, and fourth, closing out the night with a 48–0 shutout and their first district win of the season!
The Longhorns never found a way through the Pirates’ rock-solid defense, while the Shepherd offense, led by Landen Dellinger, Jacorey Davis, Javaris Marsh, and Kellyn Husband, kept the pressure on all night long. Defensively, Brayden White and the Pirate line were relentless, shutting down every Tarkington advance.
As the final buzzer sounded, the Pirate Nation roared to a 6-0 record.
The stats tell the story of a team firing on all cylinders. The Pirates’ offense racked up 321 total yards, with multiple players finding the end zone.
Leading the ground attack was Kellyn Husband, pounding out 88 yards on six carries and a touchdown. Jacorey Davis continued his impressive season with 77 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, while quarterback Landen Dellinger added another rushing score and 44 yards of his own. Ben Coyle contributed with 72 receiving yards, while Javaris Marsh and Marshall Reeves each posted a touchdown to round out the Pirates’ scoring showcase.
On defense, the Pirates’ front line completely overwhelmed Tarkington’s offense. Michael Weekes led the charge with 3.5 sacks, followed closely by Weston Hoffart (2.5), Kobie Cheek (2), and Husband (1.5). Jacorey Davis added to his big night with a clutch interception, helping to preserve the shutout.
After the game, Coach Miles Robison praised his team’s discipline and growth.
“I’m very proud of our young men; 6-0 is a big accomplishment in Shepherd,” Robison said. “We will have to play our very best next week against state-ranked West Orange-Stark.”
The Trojans lost their opening district bid against Orangefield 49-13 on Friday.
