The Shepherd Pirates continue to work through the early stages of the 2026 season with a new coaching staff and a fresh playbook, and despite facing tough opponents, the Pirates have shown determination and resilience on the field.
Shepherd traveled to Warren High School and Silsbee High School for a pair of competitive matchups before finishing the stretch with a road game against Huntington.
In the matchup against Silsbee, the Pirates battled early before the Tigers broke the game open in the third inning when Silsbee erupted for 10 runs.
Tyler Scifres took the loss for Shepherd after working two innings and allowing four runs on three hits. Isiah Castillo, Dallas Phifer, and Hagen Adams each collected a hit.
In the next matchup against the Huntington Red Devils, Shepherd jumped out to an early lead and put pressure on the home team from the start; Dillon Somers doubled to drive in two runs, and Tyler Scifres followed with an RBI single, giving Shepherd an early 3-0 advantage.
Huntington responded in the bottom of the second inning, using timely hits and aggressive baserunning to take a 5-3 lead. The Red Devils added another run in the third for the final 6-3 score.
Shepherd continued to battle throughout the game and showed strong offensive production. Tyler Scifres led the Pirates with three hits, while Dillon Somers drove in three runs. Marshall Reeves added two hits for Shepherd.
Reeves pitched six innings while allowing six runs — only one of them earned — and striking out seven batters.
On Saturday, Shepherd faced a tough challenge from Little Cypress-Mauriceville, who used a big third inning to secure a 12-1 victory.
Wyatt Collins took the loss for Shepherd after pitching two and one-third innings against the Bears’ strong lineup. Kyler Syracuse drove in Shepherd’s lone run, while Marshall Reeves led the team in hits, going 1-for-2.
The Trojans baseball team hosted A&M Consolidated on March 5, but a late offensive surge by the visitors gave them a 9-2 win.
Coldspring struck first in the first when Ethan Hamilton launched a solo home run deep over the left-field fence. A&M Consolidated responded quickly, tying the game in the second inning with an RBI single.
The game remained competitive until the seventh inning when A&M Consolidated broke things open. The visitors scored five runs in the final frame on four hits.
Jordan Ash started on the mound for Coldspring, allowing seven runs on 11 hits while striking out seven and walking two. At the plate, Wade Currie and Ethan Hamilton each drove in a run for the Trojans. Jacob Ash led the team with two hits in three at-bats, while Jacoby Johnson had three stolen bases.
On March 3, Coldspring’s hitting, base running, and strong pitching to secure a 14-3 victory over Hull-Daisetta.
The game’s momentum shifted in the fifth inning when the Trojans erupted for five runs on five hits. The highlight of the night came when McCall Hilton raced around the bases for an exciting inside-the-park home run, driving in two runs. The Trojans kept the rally going as two more runs scored during the inning before Jordan Ash delivered a triple, bringing home another run and pushing the lead even further out of reach.
Kace Tullos started on the mound, allowing just one hit and two runs over two and one-third innings while striking out five. Wade Currie came on in relief and dominated, pitching three and one-third innings while allowing only one hit and one run, striking out an impressive nine batters.
The Trojan offense was firing on all cylinders, collecting 12 hits on the night. McCall Hilton, Brayden Sherman, Ethan Hamilton, and Jacob Ash each recorded two hits to lead the attack. Hilton, Hamilton, and Ash also each drove in two runs.
Coldspring kept the pressure on the bases as well, stealing eight bases during the game. Ethan Hamilton and Jacob Ash each recorded multiple steals, helping create scoring opportunities throughout the night.
