SHEPHERD — The Pirates continued their historic run, improving to a 5-0 record after a thrilling 38-28 comeback win over the Diboll Lumberjacks on Homecoming night.
Homecoming week is always full of distractions, parades, celebrations, and proud alumni filling the stands, but once the opening whistle blew, it was all business under the lights of Pirate Field.
The game didn’t start in Shepherd’s favor. Diboll struck quickly, jumping out to a 14-0 lead behind a sharp passing attack from quarterback Rylie Arambula, who stunned the crowd with a series of pinpoint throws that kept the Pirate defense on its heels. The Lumberjacks carried a 21-14 lead into halftime, and it looked as though Shepherd’s perfect record might be in jeopardy.
But then came the Pirate turnaround.
Head Coach Miles Robison and his staff made key halftime adjustments, plugging defensive holes and reigniting the offensive tempo. The result was nothing short of dominant. The Pirates came storming out of the locker room, outscoring Diboll 24–7 in the second half and holding the Lumberjacks to just 74 total yards after halftime, a true statement from a defense that refused to quit.
Offensively, Shepherd unleashed its powerful ground game once again, racking up 361 total yards, 325 of them on the ground.
Landen Dellinger led the charge with 197 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 passing TD.
Jevaris Marsh added 44 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, and 1 receiving touchdown.
On defense, Michael Weekes, Weston Hoffart, and Kyler Syracuse anchored a unit that shut down Diboll’s offense when it mattered most.
When the final whistle sounded, the scoreboard read Shepherd 38, Diboll 28, and the Pirates remained undefeated at 5–0.
The Trojans were downed 45-18 by the Kirbyville Wildcats on Friday.
