COLDSPRING — The Bobcats entered the contest sitting at the top of the District 10 standings, and despite riding on a wave of senior honor, Coldspring, which is seventh in the district, fell to Orangefield 34-6 on Friday.
Orangefield opened the scoring with a drive that began at their own 32-yard line and covered 58 yards in just 4 minutes and 24 seconds, ending with the first touchdown of the night. Orangefield continued to build its advantage, putting together a strong second quarter with 21 points and adding another touchdown in the third.
The Bobcat defense kept Coldspring off the scoreboard through the first three quarters, making it difficult for the Trojans to establish any offensive rhythm. Coldspring continued working and finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter, adding six points to the scoreboard. The effort gave the hometown crowd something to cheer for, even as Orangefield maintained firm control of the game. When the final whistle sounded, the Bobcats had secured a 34-6 victory and carried their undefeated record back to Orangefield.
Berlin Bradford Stadium hosted a large crowd that not only cheered for the team, but for the seniors, and the celebration brought a few familiar faces back to where their football memories began and a reunion of former Trojans who came together at midfield to remember the days when they wore the same colors.
Among those sharing memories were Orangefield Coach Brock Barbay, who once played quarterback as a sophomore for Coldspring under the guidance of his father, Brian Barbay. Also part of the gathering were former running backs coach Alec Dunham, current Coldspring Head Coach Chad Allen and former head baseball coach Mark Sewell. For a few moments, the 50-yard line looked less like the meeting place of opposing teams and more like an old family reunion.
Coldspring will travel to East Chambers next Friday for its final game of the 2026 season.
For the final game of the regular season, the Pirates will host Silsbee on Friday while holding a 2-2 district record after last week’s 32-6 loss to Hamshire-Fannett.
There were little offensive stats to report, but as a team, Shepherd put together 34 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss. Leading that charge was Brayden White with 6 solo tackles, including 2 sacks, and Jamil Butler, who pulled down the team’s lone interception.
