Corrigan-Camden football took the field at home Thursday, lining up versus Buffalo for the first scrimmage of 2026. Buffalo scored once in the controlled session, while the Bulldogs outscored the Bison 7-6 in live action.
“Obviously, we're young in some spots. We graduated a lot of really good players,” Corrigan-Camden head coach Brett Ratliff said. “And so, those guys are going to have to keep fighting. But I'll tell you this, I thought we came out a little timid, a little nervous. It wasn't because they're intimidated or they don't want to hit. I mean, we play hard, we hit hard. It was they didn't want to screw up. That's OK, but they're going to have to let some of that go. Throughout the course of the game, they did. They said, ‘I know what to do. I'm going to go as fast and as hard as I can doing it.’ And because of that, we got better.”
A large focal point of the offense this season will be running back Derrick Reagie. The senior was honorable mention all-state last season with over 1,700 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
“Obviously, Derrick looks good,” Ratliff said. “I limited his carry significantly tonight. I mean, it's preseason football, right? We're going to make sure that he knows where to line up, what to do, get him loose, get him feeling good, and then pull the reins back. When I had to run him in the actual live part, he broke out a 65-yarder. At the end of the day, we know what we’ve got with him. We’ve got to learn some positions for some other guys.”
Ratliff mentioned a need to build depth on the offensive line. He wants improvement there, and said he saw some Thursday. The secondary is also young, but the coach was pleased with their effort in the scrimmage. The team will travel to Carlisle High School Thursday to finish the scrimmage portion of the schedule.
“Through the course of the game, I'm starting to see it come together. And in scrimmage one, when you start to see what you can be, that's a good thing.”
