Egregious is as egregious does, especially in politics

“Politics is the only profession where individuals can lie, cheat, and steal and still maintain respect.” — attributed to Mark Twain

“Do as I say, not as I do.” — most every parent everywhere, everywhen

When the rules stop applying equally to everyone, can we really say we’re in the Land of the Free? Given the current political climate, and the shenanigans perpetrated by none other than Ilhan Omar, or Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, perhaps we should change the last line of the “Star Spangled Banner” to “Land of the twee, cause the home of the brazen.”

Most folks by now have heard that squad member and U.S.-hating Rep. Ilhan Omar is under investigation for possible fraud in connection with her immigration paperwork, meaning she may have gained her citizenship in our country illegally.

It’s been said she married her brother to become a citizen; it’s been said here were discrepancies in her application for naturalization.

Turns out that investigation may have started under the Obama administration, but as is pretty much all investigations against liberals during that time, nothing came of it.

Stay tuned, as this may or may not be resolved.

“When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind, as to (profess) things he does not believe, he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime.” — Thomas Paine

For years there has been quite a bit of noise about election fraud, election interference, illegal voter registration purges of voter rolls.

Many a lawsuit has been filed over banning mail-in ballots, scandals over voting machines, and executive orders banning this and requiring that.

Then there was the continuing folderal over the SAVE Act, which essentially would require ID for all voters. While there was a lot of rhetoric passed around by one side that this would save democracy, even more rhetoric was spewed that democracy will be replaced with fascism and millions upon millions of people will be disenfranchised because IDs are such a pain to get.

Forget that these very same people are responsible for the laws that require IDs for everything from the purchase of canned air to owning firearms. Somehow, voting has some sort of magical anti-ID spell that will destroy the country should the requirement become law.

The latest shenanigan comes out of Alaska, where a Democrat candidate for Lisa Murkowski’s seat may have hired a candidate to be on the ballot, one that has the same name as the Republican candidate.

The case of the two Daniel Sullivans is now wending its way through the bike paths of justice, and it will inevitably, or so I believe, end up in the same bin as the Omar investigation and the SAVE Act.

For me, this isn’t, and hasn’t been for a long time, a conservative vs. liberal issue, with me largely stumping for Republicans. It has mostly been a government-is-way-out-of-control issue, with our elected “representatives” carving out fiefdoms to rule over the proles.

As shameful as that is, the fact that large swaths of society believe that this is meet and right (liturgical phrase used intentionally here) is equally, if not moreso, shameful. In a nutshell, this was never the country the founders intended.

Hopefully, in this last election, those of us who are fed up with the controlling overreach of the “well-intended” got out and voted for people who believe they are the masters of their own destinies, rather than people who feel that their simple election gives them unlimited power and carte blanche to break the rules.

If not, here are lyrics from the song in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” sung by critters who took the wrong “Matrix” pill:

“I see the future shine on me and pictures of the times to be.

Where day and night and heat and cold and birth and death are all controlled

And profit rules and all is calm on England's grey and modern farm.”
