Chester’s Jaxon Gay was selected for a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the Can-Am Six-Man All-Star football game held in Meeteetse, Wyoming on July 4. Gay was one of five athletes chosen from top players in Texas joined with other roster members from Nebraska, Montana, Colorado and Wyoming to represent the USA team. USA’s opponent, Canada, was made up of players from the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta. The team arrived in Meeteetse several days before the game to meet each other and practice but also got to participate in activities like sightseeing, a banquet including their family, and an honorary parade through the town on Saturday. Team USA and Team Canada have played the Can-Am Bowl for 28 seasons. Team USA has an impressive 23-5 record against Team Canada winning the last five consecutively.

This year team USA shut out team Canada for the first time, winning 60-0. Gay was a contributor to that win with several carries, one sack, and multiple tackles before suffering a broken collarbone in the first quarter. Gay was able to cheer on his teammates from the sidelines and still has an unforgettable memory that most athletes would love to have.

When asked, Gay states that he is thankful to God for the opportunity, coaches who selected him, for his community who supported him on this journey, and his family. He also states that he had a great time and it is not every day that you get to represent your school and the United States of America on their 250th birthday, playing the sport you love one last time.
