The Colmesneil Lady Bulldogs have made history, finishing the season as undefeated District Champions and claiming the district championship for the first time in seven years. In an even greater milestone, this marks the third time in Colmesneil history that the Lady Bulldogs have finished a season undefeated!

Led by senior captains Taryn Byrum and Madison Primrose, the Lady Dogs have demonstrated determination, teamwork, and grit throughout the season.

Head Coach Trey Bullock, who is new to the district this year, praised the team’s accomplishments, saying, “We had a lot of work to do at the beginning of this season including academics and longer practices. August was extremely busy. Our goal was to put ourselves in a good position to compete in the district playoffs. Our girls put in the work to get there, and we are excited for the opportunity to be in the playoffs.”

Assistant Coach Dena Settlocker shared her words of encouragement for the team, adding, “Embrace it; be proud of it; but never be satisfied. We have earned our place but there is more to chase. Stay humble, stay hungry, and keep fighting. The job isn’t finished.”

The championship team includes Seniors: Taryn Byrum, Madison Primrose, Grace Fowler, and Klohie Hughes; Juniors: Torie Lewis, Justice Pittman, and Carlen Sluga; Sophomores: Abby Arreola and Georgia Deckard; and Freshmen: Kynsley Shird, Halle Thomas, and Ava Underwood. Team managers Kassidy Widner, Peyton Lee, Melanie Bell, and Jacey Chargois have also played an important role in supporting the team throughout the season.

With history made and a district title secured, the Lady Bulldogs are preparing for the next challenge. They played a warm-up game last Friday, in Goodrich to get ready for the postseason. The Lady Dogs’ first playoff game is Thursday, Oct. 29. They will take on the Lady Bobcats of Gary, at 6 p.m. at Lufkin High School for the bi-district round. There will be a send-off on campus at 3 p.m. for the Lady Dogs.
