Lady Jackets sweep Warren, Shepherd

The Lady Jacket volleyball teams picked up wins this week from Warren and Shepherd. On Tuesday, Sept. 8 the Lady Jackets hosted Warren and came away with a full program sweep by both teams.

The Varsity squad played three very close sets with scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 25-23. Harley Jones went 13 for 13 at the service line, led kills with 8, 3 block assists, and one dig. Demi Garsee went 11 for 11 on the service line with three aces, 9 service receptions, and 9 digs. Sadie Garsee had two aces, 29 service receptions, and 7 digs, Cadence Pounds had 9 kills, 2 aces, and 9 digs, Kynlee Citrano had 6 kills, 2 block assists, one ace, 14 digs, and one assist. Tegan Toler had three kills, one block assist, 13 digs, and led assists with 19. 

On Friday, Sept. 11, both the JV and Varsity teams beat Shepherd on the road. The Lady Jacket varsity squad won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-22, Shepherd answered back the next two sets 25-16 and 25-18, but the Lady Jackets ultimately came away with the win in the 5th set 15-6. This week the Lady Jackets will host Latexo on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at JP Johnson Gymnasium with JV starting at 4:30 p.m. and varsity following.

The Lady Jackets have a bye on Friday, Sept. 18. On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Lady Jacket varsity squad will travel to Leggett for the first district game of the season. 


Jackets pick up big win

The Yellowjacket football team picked up a big 89-43 win at home vs Oakwood on September 10. The game ended early in the third quarter due to the 45-point mercy rule. Jayse Gay had a great night on defense breaking the school record for single game tackles with 19. Gay also had 2 hurries, a pass break up, and a forced fumble on defense. Offensively Gay had 6 carries for 66 yards with three touchdowns. Kasen Citrano led offensively with 11 carries for 207 yards with three touchdowns, went three for five in passing for 102 yards with two touchdowns. Citrano also helped on the defensive side of the ball with 10 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 pick 6’s, 3 hurries, and a pass break up. Turner Johnson had 4 carries for 45 yards with one touchdown, 2 receptions for 86 yards with two touchdowns, and passed for 36 yards. Defensively Johnson had 5 tackles, two interceptions, two pick 6’s, and a pass break up. Greyson Rosencranz had two receptions for 36 yards, 11 tackles, and a kick inside the 5-yard line. Ethan Gray had a 50-yard kick return, and one tackle. Bryson Swanson had 7 tackles, Russell McDonnold had 3 tackles, a pass break up, and three hurries, Colton Wiseman had 12 tackles, a fumble recovery for touchdown, Cainan Kosina and Jett Johnson had two tackles each, Hunter Ivers three tackles, Masen Pursley one tackle, and Gunner Walker had a on side recovery. This week the Jackets will host Pasadena at Aubry Bradley Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. 


Cross-country has meet

The cross-country runners had their first meet this past week on Sept. 9. Daven Walker placed 7 out of 146 with a time of 9:12, and Russell McDonnold placed 43 out of 109 with a time of 24:12.
