Livingston volleyball began the 2026 season in a tri-match with Madisonville and Lufkin.
The Lions took Madisonville to five sets, dropping a 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 10-25 and 4-15 match early. In the night contest, they swept Lufkin 25-17, 25-21 and 25-19.
Both schools visiting Livingston Tuesday were playoff teams in 2025, and each swept the Lions in August of last year.
New Lion head coach Casey Veen said she has been impressed with the effort her girls have given in their short period together thus far.
"We went toe-to-toe," Veen said. "I thought the girls recovered well. There were a couple of growing pains here and there, but it's a new system, new offense, and new players. I thought the girls did an awesome job."
The coach said she was looking forward to a very competitive Leon tournament over the weekend. In Thursday’s action, Livingston shined with a 3-0 mark, defeating Teague, Brazos Christian and getting a little revenge on Madisonville.
Next week, the girls are on the road at Woodville Tuesday, then prepare for another tournament in Lufkin. They will not return home until Aug. 25 versus Buffalo.
