Livingston volleyball needed just three sets to eliminate Houston Austin from the bi-district round of the playoffs Thursday in New Caney. The Lions completed the sweep with scores of 25-8, 25-18 and 25-6.
With their 29th win of the season, they have also set a school record for victories in a year. Coach Casey Veen, in her first year back at Livingston, said her girls did what was needed in a contest they were expected to win.
“The goal is to win and take care of business, and I thought the girls did that well,” the coach said. “The next round is going to be a little bit harder.”
The Lions struggled early on with unforced errors, but adjusted to dominate the last half of the first set. Mary Martin and Ta’Leiyah Garner were responsible for many of the kills.
Another slow Livingston start had them in front by just one at 9-8 until rolling off eight consecutive points. Maci Parrish provided the serves and the Lions were able to coast to a second set win.
Tied at 3-3 in the final set, Livingston made it look easy with 15 consecutive points, leading to the sweep.
Lumberton will be the opponent in the area round, after their win over Hudson Thursday night at Woodville.
