Shepherd wins regionals, top coach awards

NAVASOTA — Shepherd Pirates Boys Powerlifting Team won first in the regional powerlifting meet, while Coach Cedric White was named Regional Coach of the Year.

Additionally, seven athletes qualified for the State Meet in Abilene.

Gage Murphy was named outstanding lifter on the light platform, outstanding squat and outstanding bench press.

Meanwhile, according to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association, Shepherd’s Elizabeth Coyle and Sarya Contreras were named to the 2025 All Academic Elite Team, and Alyssa Jimenez was named to the 2025 All Academic 2nd Team.
