TRINITY — After a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss applications, the Trinity City Council on Thursday hired Tracy Hutto as city manager.

Mayor Billy Goodin said that Hutto, who is a former warden for Texas Department of Criminal Justice, formally took over her duties on Monday.

“I researched her background, and feel she will be an asset to city,” he said.

In other business, the council:

•approve an increase in water and sewer rates that increased prices on commercial and out-of-city limits;

•awarded a bid for work on the city’s water system, and approved seeking an additional $750,000 for additional work to build a new water tower and improve the entire water system; and

•discussed the seven applications for police chief, and selected three candidates for interviews.
