Tyler County Team Wins Golden Triangle Championship

Posted

BEAUMONT — A group of young athletes from Tyler County brought home a championship Sunday as the TyCo Titans 12U captured the 2026 SETBA Golden Triangle Championship in Beaumont.

The tournament, a Perfect Game-affiliated event, featured talented teams from across Southeast Texas, including organizations from the Beaumont area, the Golden Triangle, and the greater Houston region. Many of these programs draw from much larger populations and compete year-round at a high level, making the championship a significant accomplishment for the Titans.

What makes the story even better is where these players come from.

The TyCo Titans are made up primarily of boys from Woodville, Chester, and Warren, along with neighboring communities such as Big Sandy and Corrigan. The roster is also a unique blend of both 11-year-olds and 12-year-olds competing together against some of the top teams in the region.

In an era when many select organizations recruit players from large metropolitan areas, the Titans are built around local kids who have grown up together. Many have attended school together, played Little League against one another, competed on the same basketball courts and football fields, and spent years building friendships and rivalries throughout Tyler County. Now, those same players wear the same jersey and represent their communities together.

After going 1-0-1 in pool play Saturday, the Titans put together an impressive championship run on Sunday. They opened bracket play with an 8-7 win over Savage Champagne, followed with a 9-1 victory over Gladiators Brasuell, and then defeated BBA Diamond Kings-Oliphant 6-1 in the championship game.

Over five games, TyCo finished 4-0-1 while scoring 37 runs, collecting 31 hits, and stealing 23 bases.

The championship roster included:

  • Easton Barnes
  • Case Conner
  • Nate Davis
  • Jase Davis
  • Jack Duff
  • Jackson Jones
  • Jacob Luquette
  • Kord Strength
  • Gael Valdez
  • Parker Wagnon
  • Grant Wilson

The team is coached by Wyatt Bell, Brad Jones, and Jordan Wilson.

Several players delivered big performances throughout the weekend. Nate Davis led the offense with a .600 batting average and six RBIs. Jackson Jones provided power, including a home run in the championship game. Grant Wilson, Case Conner, Easton Barnes, Jacob Luquette, and Gael Valdez were key contributors as the Titans consistently found ways to score.

Just as important was the pitching staff. In a tournament where teams often play multiple games in a short span, the Titans received contributions from several arms throughout the weekend. Parker Wagnon led the staff with eight strikeouts and delivered a dominant performance in the semifinal victory. Case Conner was outstanding in the biggest moments, throwing key innings throughout the tournament before earning the win in the championship game. Grant Wilson provided scoreless innings in relief, while Gael Valdez, Kord Strength, Nate Davis, and others helped carry the workload and keep the staff fresh. As a team, the Titans held opponents to a .232 batting average and allowed just two runs combined in the semifinal and championship games.

For the players, coaches, and families involved, the championship was about more than baseball. It was a chance for a group of local kids from small communities to compete against some of the best teams in Southeast Texas and prove they belonged.

This weekend, they did more than belong.

They brought the trophy home.
