Chad Allen returns to lead Trojan athletics

COLDSPRING — Sometimes the best person to lead a program is someone who already knows what it means to wear the colors.

That was the feeling throughout the Coldspring High School Gymnasium on Friday as students, parents, alumni, former teammates, coaches, and community members gathered to officially welcome home Chad Allen, the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Coldspring-Oakhurst ISD.

The atmosphere was one of excitement, optimism, and pride as one of Coldspring's own returned to lead the next generation of Trojan student-athletes.

For Allen, this isn't simply a new coaching position, it's a chance to come home.

A proud graduate of Coldspring High School, Allen quarterbacked the Trojans during one of the program's memorable stretches, helping guide the team to a 5-5 sophomore season, an 8-2 junior campaign, and a 10-win senior season that included a deep UIL playoff run. Now, years later, he returns to the sidelines with a new mission: building champions on the field, in the classroom, and throughout the community.

After graduating from Coldspring, Allen spent the past decade at Cypress Falls High School, where he coached football and basketball in one of Texas' premier Class 6A athletic programs. The experience of coaching at one of the state's highest levels has helped shape his leadership style, one he is eager to bring back to his hometown.

Allen and his wife, Carissa, along with their two sons, are excited to once again call Coldspring home.

Addressing those in attendance, Allen spoke about what the opportunity means to him.

"I'm honored and excited to return home to serve our students, athletes, coaches, and this incredible community. I truly believe Coldspring-Oakhurst deserves the very best, and I'm ready to get to work building on our tradition while creating an even brighter future together."

His words were met with enthusiastic support from those in attendance, reflecting the excitement surrounding a coach who understands not only the traditions of Trojan athletics, but also the expectations that come with wearing the red and white.

Allen earned both his bachelor's degree in general studies and his master's degree in criminal justice from Lamar University. His coaching philosophy extends far beyond wins and losses, focusing on developing complete student-athletes through academics, discipline, leadership, accountability, character, and service.

As he begins this new chapter, Allen has made it clear that his vision is to unite athletes, coaches, parents, and the community under one standard of excellence. While championships remain a goal, he believes the greatest success comes from preparing young men and women for life after graduation.

For many in attendance, Friday's meet and greet wasn't simply the introduction of a new athletic director, it was the return of a hometown leader who understands the rich tradition of Coldspring athletics and is committed to building on that legacy.

The excitement surrounding Coach Allen's return was unmistakable, and as the evening came to a close, one thing was evident: Trojan Nation believes the future of Coldspring athletics is in good hands.

Welcome home, Coach Chad Allen.
