NACOGDOCHES — A 14-2 loss on Friday and an 8-2 loss on Saturday, both to Brookeland, ended the win streak and postseason romp of the Centerville Bulldogs.
The Dawgs went undefeated throughout district play in baseball this season, mostly the same players that posted an 11-3 district record in basketball. Regardless, the team set a high bar for players for years to come.
Coaches Lawton Trekell and Geoff Hollis both say that the student athletes, teachers, administration, parents, family members, fans and supporters helped make the 2024-25 year special and successful.
The team boasts a lot of records that were broken, a lot of milestones were reached and a lot of statewide recognition was heaped on Centerville athletics. Additionally, the students represented the district honorably, and the Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs are excellent young men and women with incredible character and take care of business in the classroom and elsewhere.
On Friday, though, Brookeland handed Centerville its first loss of the series after pitchers Brice Selman, Eli Emmons and Hardy Brown gave up 8 walks and 12 hits.
The team managed only 5 hits, led by Jake Slaten’s 2-for-3 showing.
On Saturday, Jake Slaten and Kolt Larsen combined for 12 strikeouts but gave up 9 hits and 7 earned runs in the loss.
The bats were equally as cold in Saturday’s game with a total of 5 hits, this time with Kolt Larsen leading the way with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate that included a double.
