CENTERVILLE — Apple Springs put up six-straight wins last week, dominating county rival Centerville in a rematch on Sept. 9 and overpowering Leggett on Friday.
The Lady Eagles won 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) over the Lady Bulldogs and 3-0 (25-6, 25-6, 25-6) over the Lady Pirates.
Sophomore Brooke Brister made a huge impact on the matches last week, racking up 7 kills in the game against Centerville and 4 kills in the Friday game against Leggett.
Libero Katie Davis, also a sophomore, was a key player in both matches of the week, posting 7 digs on the week and adding a back row kill to her stats.
Junior Abrie McWhorter put up impressive performances all week at the service line. McWhorter had 7 aces total last week, with 3 coming in the Tuesday game against Centerville, and 4 coming in the Friday game against Leggett.
Freshman Maisyn Jayroe also put up an impressive performance at the service line, where she racked up 5 aces in Friday's matchup against Leggett.
Head Coach Raegyn Moreno said that although they have a young team with 6 sophomores and 2 freshmen, you wouldn't know it by watching them on the court.
“The chemistry and comradery among these girls is remarkable,” she said. “I am honored to be here coaching them, and to be witnessing the greatness they are showing.”
The Lady Tigers had one game last week against Alpha Omega, losing 3-0 (9-25, 8-25, 16-25) but still on track to meet its season goal of 6 wins.
Ashara English led with 4 kills, while Carolyn Cleveland and Braleigh Bush had 2 kills each. Ashara English also had 2 aces and 2 blocks.
“(Ashara) lead the game in getting us out of tough situations and spots,” said Head Coach Courtney Willis.
Jasmine Jordan had 20 passing digs, and Carolyn Cleveland had 11 digs.
“Both of them have more than 100 digs this season; Jasmine Jordan reached 200 digs this season,” Willis said.
