TRINITY — The Tigers are still looking for that first baseball win of the season.
On March 18, Trinity started out strong against Chester, but the first inning showed the only runs for the Tigers, and Chester’s 8 runs in the first two at-bats set the tone for the 13-2 loss.
Avery Williams and Christian Vaughn were the two Tigers crossing the plate after Canyen Hollis’ lone hit triple, and Vaughn led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a double.
Hollis, Austin Wallace and Hunter Ogden all toed the rubber, combining for 10 strikeouts but allowing 20 hits.
On Friday, Trinity lost to New Waverly 16-1.
Centerville
The Bulldogs blanked Wells 9-0 on March 18.
Centerville scored at the top of the first inning after Jake Slaten tripled down the left field line, Wyatt Clede singled down the right field line, Wells committed an error, and scored on a wild pitch.
Clede had mound duty, up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one, while reliever Hardy Brown pitched two innings of zero-run ball, giving up no hits, striking out three and walking none.
Slaten led the offense with three runs batted in, going 2-for-4, while Clede went 3-for-5 and Kolt Larsen and Brown chipped in multiple hits.
On Friday, Centerville downed Kennard 15-0 for the second shutout of the week.
Slaten drove in four runs on two hits to lead the offense, which included a home run to left field for 2 RBIs and a double in the third inning, scoring two. Hardy Brown singled, scoring two runs, Brice Selman singled, scoring one run, Chris Fry drew a walk, scoring one run, Eli Emmons doubled, scoring two runs, and Brown hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Slaten had the mound and gave up two hits and no runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking none.
Centerville Varsity Bulldogs ran wild on the base paths, piling up nine stolen bases for the game.
Groveton
The Indians overpowered Slocum 18-5 on March 18, but lost to Hemphill 6-1 on Friday.
In Friday’s game, Dax Parker and Ty Torregrossa each had hits for Groveton, while Torregrossa and Jake Plotts each had mound time, combining for 13 strikeouts while giving up 6 hits.
Girls
Trinity
The Lady Tigers showed promise, but ultimately came up short against New Waverly, losing 5-2 on Friday.
On March 18, also against New Waverly, Trinity fell 10-0.
Groveton
The Lady Indians blanked Hemphill 10-0 on Friday.
