Trinity ISD planning active shooter training

TRINITY — The Trinity ISD Board of Trustees discussed training for the district’s response to active shooting events.

Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Petty said that at the July 27 meeting, the board discussed a collaborative training exercise between area agencies that would respond to such an event, such as city police, county sheriff, constables, fire department and district personnel.

“It makes sense for us to map that out and drill so everyone will know their roles,” he said. “It will be similar to a table-top exercise.”

Following that, active shooter training will be held at the school level for teachers and administrators, he said. ARC Training LLC will provide training, including drills.

Petty said the district will put procedures in place to keep staff and students safe as possible.

No dates have been set.

In other business, the board:

  • discussed strategic planning to come up with a new vision and mission for the district;
