Where is the leadership?

Posted

This last weekend, I had the opportunity to speak at a three-day Christian men’s conference.

I spoke about leadership, and discussed the role of men leading, and co-leading their families, with their wife and/or significant other. We discussed the role of a male being involved with their children even if they no longer have a relationship with their mother.

I’m sure, many of you have seen a shift in the involvement of our leaders in our society whether they are men or women. Over the last two years, Trinity and Trinity County have lost some of their more prominent leaders.

A few days ago, Judge Joe Ned Dean died. Members of the Huffman family passed away and last year we lost Lyle Stubbs. These men honorably served Trinity and Trinity County for 30 years or more. The Huffman boys served in the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department for 62 years; this doesn’t encompass the other roles they served in over the course of their lifetime.

It takes men and women like these to lead and take ownership of their community in which they live, in order to make a difference.

Men and women of their era were resilient in the face of hardships, they demonstrated patriotism and willingness to serve, they each had a strong work ethic, while possessing community spirit and dedication to Trinity and the people they served.

Trinity is lucky to have residents like the ones who serve on our city council, the city mayor, the city manager, all who have taken ownership of Trinity, serving and trying to make a difference for you. Individuals like Keith Johnson, who wears many hats in our community and is always a telephone call away.

The “call to serve” is a biblical and a moral invitation to live out faith through selfless action and using ones gifts to meet the needs of others and strengthen the community. I want to encourage you to make a difference in our community. I want to encourage you to find a place to serve, whether it’s in a church, a group outside of a church, or some organization, such as the Senior Center, the VFW, etc.

Make a difference and leave this world a better place than the way we found it. Talk to you soon.

Call us if you need us.
