COLMESNEIL – The Colmesneil Bulldogs are looking to continue their tour de force under the direction of new head coach and athletic director Chad Coker.

The ‘Dogs are going into their next district game, this Friday, Oct. 16 on a five-game winning streak. Colmesneil will be the visiting team on Friday against the West Hardin Oilers, with a 7 p.m. kick off.

The Bulldogs won by forfeit last week against Hull-Daisetta, which notched them another mark on a perfect district record since they began with a win against Evadale for District 12AA greatness. The Bulldogs now sit at pole position in their district standings, with an overall 5-2 season record.

Recently, Setx Sports highlighted the Bulldogs’ defense at #10 in the entire region, for all conferences, with opponents only averaging 20 points per game on the ‘Dogs.

Going into Friday’s game, the Oilers are sitting at a 3-2 season record, with their last two opponents shared with the Bulldogs, and those teams suffered almost identical fates at the hands of the Oilers as they did with the ‘Dogs – Sabine Pass Sharks getting a 59-0 shutout dealt them and Hull-Daisetta losing by forfeit.

The Bulldogs will be led offensively by seniors Carson Fasske and Dean Yates. Yates, the running back sporting the #1 jersey, has averaged 134.7 rushing yards per game, while QB Fasske has averaged 85.3 yards in passing. This is compared to West Hardin’s Owen Beauchamp, who has averaged significantly less yardage in both roles. Yates’s brother, Jack, a junior wide receiver has averaged slightly under key player Dmarques Guillory, on the Oilers’ squad, in receiving yards.

After Friday’s game, the ‘Dogs have a bye week, and will pick things back up on Friday, Oct. 30 against Deweyville on their home turf of Taylor Field.

Lady Dogs up to six-win streak

The Lady Dogs are kicking some rear on the volleyball courts, and after a Monday win against the Deweyville Lady Pirates, their streak has grown to six games, for an overall 21-15 season.

The Lady Dogs came within one set out of five of losing the streak, but wound up posting a final score of 3-2 to secure their victory.

The Lady Dogs went 1-0 for the first two sets and 0-1 during sets three and four, but came back in the fifth set 1-0. They will face West Hardin’s Lady Oilers at the RB Moffett Gym at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15.
