Bulldogs trample on Rebels, 50-21

COLMESNEIL – After a successful two-game run against All Saints Episcopal (28-25) and a homecoming win against Ore City (30-12), the Colmesneil Bulldogs began district on their home turf of Taylor Field against an old foe, the Evadale Rebels.

The ‘Dogs, once again, got the win, and sent the Rebels back home to enjoy the fresh air over that way and to regroup, with the visiting team only getting 21 points on the ‘Dogs. With Friday’s win, Colmesneil improved their per-game scoring average up to 26 points per game, with a 50-21 final score.

The ‘Dogs had a senior duo take command of the proceedings, with Dean Yates gaining 252 total yards and four touchdowns and Carson Fasske throwing for 187 yards and three TDs on only eight passes. The game also marked Yates’s second in a row with at least two rushing touchdowns.

Yates’s brother Jack, a junior, notched 153 yards receiving and scored two TDs.

The ‘Dogs were unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 364 yards. The Rebels’ loss wasn’t for lack of effort from QB Brett Buckner, who prevented things from getting worse by rushing for 55 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 172 yards and 1 touchdown (one interception).

Colmesneil now has a winning record of 3-2. The Rebels now sit at a similar record after their defeat.

The ‘Dogs will now take on Sabine Pass on Friday, on the road at Shark Stadium, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
