Colmesneil teams embracing winning ways

When Coach Chad Coker and his crew of Bulldogs rolled into Sabine Pass on Friday to take on the Sharks, the ‘Dogs were coming in hot on a three-game winning streak, after victories against All Saints Episcopal; Ore City and Evadale.

The Sharks, who remained winless for the season after Friday, could not get anything past the airtight Bulldog defense, and fell 57-0. By the end of the second quarter, the score was already 30-0, with hardly a mathematical possibility in sight that the Sharks could ever catch up to their visiting team of ‘Dogs.

Several of the ‘Dogs turned in solid play to lead the team to victory, but it was senior running back Dean Yates, who rushed for 66 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns on a mere five carries who was the standout. Yates has now played in three straight games where he’s notched at least two rushing TDs.

Quarterback Carson Fasske also turned in a superb performance, throwing for 45 yards and two TDs, and completing 83.3% of his passes. As a team, the ‘Dogs have scored 50 or more points in both of their district wins, so far, after Friday’s shutout and the previous week’s 50-21 victory against the Evadale Rebels.

After their shutout of the Sharks in their own Shark Tank, the Bulldogs are leading the pack on the District 12 2A Division 2 standings, with a perfect 2-0 district record and an overall 4-2 season record. Colmesneil is all set to continue their district dominance this Friday at 7 p.m. at home on Taylor Field turf against Hull-Daisetta’s Bobcats. The Bobcats are winless, so far, this season.

Lady ‘Dogs can’t be beat

The Colmesneil Lady Bulldogs are also sitting at a perfect district record in the 2A Region III District 24 volleyball standings.

The Lady ‘Dogs pounced on the Evadale Lady Rebels on the Lady Rebs’ home court on Monday, and came away with their fifth straight win, with an overall score of 3-1.

The win bumps the Lady Dogs’ overall record up to 20-15 for the season. The next task for the Lady Dogs is to take on the Lady Pirates of Deweyville on their own court. On Monday, Oct. 12, at the RB Moffett Gymnasium the game begins at 5:30 p.m.
