Mixed Friday night results for Woodville, Warren

The second game for the Eagles, and their first home game of the season didn’t yield the outcome Woodville had hoped for.

They hosted the Buna Cougars, and took a 29-20 hit from the visiting team. The Eagles, who were up by two touchdowns in the first quarter, 14-0, could not maintain their early lead, with a Buna score on a seven-yard run in the second quarter putting the Coogs on the scoreboard, and setting up a 14-6 Eagles lead at the half.

Offensively, Eagles junior running back Austin Land did his best to seize the day, rushing for 125 yards and scoring twice. He also caught one TD, and his score in the third quarter would be the last time of Friday night that the Eagles would post a number to the board.

In the fourth quarter, with the score at 20-14, in favor of the Eagles, Buna got to work quickly, and took the lead for the first time in the game, 22-20. A Buna interception on an Eagle ball set the stage for another Cougar score, and what would be the final score of 29-20.

Woodville now sits at 0-2 for the season, and will take on the Orangefield Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, away.

Defensively, the Eagles had Landon Harris with 13 tackles and Marquis Menefee with 10 tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception for a 38-yard return and a two-point conversion.

Warren Warriors vs. Huntington Red Devils (7-6)

On the south end of Tyler County, the Warren Warriors played host to the Huntington Red Devils for their first home game of the season at George “Bo” Isaaks Stadium.

The Red Devils put up plenty of fight against the Warriors, but ultimately picked up their 11th straight loss, dating back to last season, with a heartbreaker of a 7-6 final score, for a Warrior victor. This brings Warren to a 2-0 record for the season.

The Warriors hit the road this Friday, Sept. 11 to play the West Hardin Oilers with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
