Lady Eagle track athletes headed to state

Spurger TennisSpurger High School competed in the District Tennis Tournament held in Woodville on April 24. They are the Boys District Champions and also Girls District Champions again this year. Ten players will advance to the Regional Tennis Tournament at James Earl Rudder High School in Bryan on May 8-9.

The Woodville Lady Eagles had two throwers advance from the Region 3 AAA Track Meet in Waco to advance to the State Track Meet in Austin.  In the discus, Kamryn Grammer was the regional champion with a throw of 118’5”.  Kristen “Jazz” Betts earned her ticket with the silver medal in shot-put.  She threw 35’9.5” to advance. Both girls will compete on May 2 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Eagles facing Orangefield in playoffs

The boys baseball team punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 11-1 victory over the Huntington Red Devils on Senior Night at Hennigan Park Friday night. The Eagles will face off against the Orangefield Bobcats in the bi-district round of the playoffs.  

Tennis team plays in Vidor Tournament

Last Thursday on 4-18 the varsity tennis team attended the Vidor Tournament in Beaumont and the girls Doubles team of Avery Gazzaway and Ruby Shirley earned third place. Claire Tucker had another strong tournament advancing to the Semi-Finals.

Friday, the JV District Tournament was held in Lufkin. The girls doubles team of Hollie Jarrott and Sophie Hill earned the bronze medal.
