WOODVILLE – Jerry and Roschelle Springfield hosted Dr. Nischal Pandey, a pediatric cardiac surgeon from Gurgaon, India when he was in town last week prior to attending the Rotary District 5910 district conference in League City, where he was the main speaker.

Dr. Jerry Springfield is the district’s International Service Chair and was appointed to be Pandey’s aide while he was in town. Pandey is charter president of Rotary E-Club of Connect D 3012 in Gurgaon.

The Springfields arranged a tour of Tyler County Hospital for Pandey last Thursday, and the hospital’s HR director Christina Hood was the tour guide. Pandey was given the grand tour around various departments including the lab, C-ray, cardio-pulmonary and the west wing nurses station, during which Hood explained the range of services that the hospital provides to the community.

Pandey is the Medical Director and Centre Head at ACME Multi-Specialty Clinic in Gurgaon, India, and he is also a Visiting Consultant at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon. He received a 2023-2024 Rotary People of Action Recognition; he was never aware that his initiative to save children with heart defects would go such a long way through Rotary.

Pandey was a Rotary scholar when he decided to serve his community, and he has made Rotary International proud. He brings smiles to children and their families though his work. His dream of saving the lives of children with heart defects started when he was a Rotaractor, and continues to this day, providing a positive impact under the Rotary banner. Pandey’s program has grown over the years and has created a positive public image of Rotary in India and beyond its borders, in Africa, and southeast Asia, including Myanmar, and the Philippines.

Pandey’s work through this program covers Rotary’s Key Focus Areas, which include disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, and Peace conflict and prevention/resolution. The peace conflict area was added due to Pandey’s goodwill by extending surgeries to children from war-torn countries including Iran and Iraq.
