WOODVILLE – Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Monday the appointment of Brooke Koi as Tyler County’s Criminal District Attorney. Koi’s term is set to expire on Dec. 31, or until her successor shall be duly elected and qualified, according to a news release from Abbott’s office.
Koi has served as the county’s first assistant DA since 2022. She will fill the unexpired term left by Lucas Babin, who announced in late May that he would not seek reelection in November, after having served two full terms in the county’s top law enforcement spot.
Koi is a member of the State Bar of Texas and a former member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. Along with her official duties, Koi also has volunteered as an advocate with the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) organization.
Koi earned a BA in criminal justice and a JD from the Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia. She is also an active volunteer at Camp C.O.P.E., as an assistant counselor; with the United Methodist Army and a participant in Shooting for the Hearts of Texas.
