TYLER COUNTY – Long-serving Pct. 3 Commissioner Mike Marshall announced his retirement on Monday, with the date of Wednesday, Sept. 30 being the effective date.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve our county and work on behalf of its residents. I am deeply grateful for the trust, support and friendships I have received throughout the years,” Marshall said. “Together, we have navigated numerous challenges and achieved significant milestones seen and unseen.”

Marshall has been employed by the county for 30 years, with 18 of them served as the commissioner of Precinct 3. Leadership runs in Marshall’s family, as his father, Joe, was his predecessor in the office, having served several terms.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to my colleagues and all county staff for their dedication and partnership over the years. Your hard work made my tenure possible and rewarding,” he said.

Marshall added that in his retirement, he looks forward to watching the county grow and prosper.

Marshall was last elected in 2024, when he ran unopposed as a Republican. His office is next up for reelection in 2028. In Texas, the Local Government Code gives the county commissioners court the authority to appoint someone to fill a vacancy with a person who will serve until the next general election, but does not impose a deadline to do so.
