I was pleased to welcome our high school summer interns to the office for the week. During their time in Washington, they are getting involved in the work of the office, learning more about the legislative process, and making a meaningful contribution to Team Sessions.
It is always encouraging to see young leaders take an interest in public service and gain firsthand experience in how Congress works on behalf of the American people.
Waco Chamber Fly-In
I was overjoyed to welcome members of the Waco Chamber to Washington for meaningful discussion about public service and partnering on serving our shared constituency. Visits like this are a meaningful opportunity to connect with leaders from home, share more about the work being done in Congress, and highlight the history and significance of the Capitol.
H.R. 8312, the Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act
My bill H.R. 8312, the Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act, passed the House floor! This bill would strengthen safeguards against fraud and improve accountability across federal programs. Protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring that government resources are used as intended are critical responsibilities of Congress.
This legislation reflects the importance of verifying eligibility, preventing improper payments, and promoting greater transparency throughout the federal government. I remain committed to advancing commonsense reforms that improve government efficiency, enhance public trust, and ensure responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds.
Speaking with the Greater Waco Chamber
I recently had the opportunity to speak with members of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce about the federal issues impacting Central Texas and the opportunities ahead for the Greater Waco region.
I appreciated the chance to share my perspective on the current policy landscape in Washington and discuss priorities that support economic growth, job creation, and strong communities across our region. I remain committed to working with local leaders and stakeholders to advance policies that benefit the people of Texas and strengthen our nation’s future.
Eagles on the Hill
I was pleased to take part in the annual Eagles on the Hill reception, which brought together Eagle Scouts, Scouting alumni, congressional staff, and supporters of Scouting from across the country. The event highlighted the continued importance of leadership, service, and civic responsibility, values that Scouting has helped instill in generations of young Americans.
I appreciate the work of Scouting America, the National Eagle Scout Association, and the Congressional Scouting Caucus in supporting young leaders and encouraging a lifelong commitment to service.
Congressional baseball game
Last week, Members of Congress also participated in the annual Congressional Baseball Game, a longstanding tradition that brings Republicans and Democrats together outside the halls of Congress. This year, Republicans defeated the Democrats 11-2.
Beyond the final score, the game remains an important opportunity to support charity, build camaraderie, and take part in a bipartisan tradition that has been enjoyed for generations.
Managing HR 1355 floor debate
I recently had the opportunity to manage debate on a resolution condemning fraud against the United States Government and highlighting the importance of strengthening fraud prevention and improper payment reforms across federal programs. Ensuring taxpayer dollars are protected and that benefits are distributed only to eligible recipients is essential to maintaining public trust and promoting fiscal responsibility.
I appreciate the efforts of my colleagues who are working to improve government accountability, and I remain committed to advancing policies that safeguard federal resources and strengthen the financial future of our nation.
