Betty Jean “BJ” Cowser, 80, of Woodville, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in Woodville, Texas.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. service time on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas. Officiating will be Steve Im.
Betty was born May 31, 1945 to J.D. Oren and Bertha Lee Mask Miles in Angelina County, Texas. She was a former resident of Pineville, MO and had lived in Woodville for the past 12 years. She had worked for Brazoria County Clerk’s office as Deputy Clerk. Betty had an obsession with her flowers and gardening. She also had a love for crocheting, quilting and painting and had been an active member of the Tyler County Art League. She was a member of the Warren Seventh Day Adventist Church in Warren, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Bertha Miles; husband, Warren Cowser; stepsons, Steve Cowser and Tom Cowser; and brother, Gerald Miles.
She is survived by her daughters, Yvette Pate and husband Joey of Chester, and Kristi Wells and husband Chuck of Broaddus; stepson, Dave Cowser and wife Joanna of Topeka, KS; sister, Jerry Simmons of Doucette; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
