Billy G. Tindel, 98, of Woodville, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Woodville Health Rehabilitation Center in Woodville, Texas.
Visitation will begin 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home with military honors and masonic burial rites at Magnolia Cemetery all in Woodville. Officiating will be Brother Jay Abernathy and Brother Mark Tolar. Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Tindel, Jeremy Creed, Jordan Pulliam, Dylan Tindel, Keith Fuller, and Kent Miguez.
Billy was born October 24, 1927 to L.W. and Neva Lilley Tindel in Brownsboro, Texas. A graduate of Brownsboro High School where he excelled in athletics, cheerleading and 4H. He also excelled in Boy Scouts having obtained the highest level of excellence receiving his Eagle Scout. After high school, he joined the Coast Guard and served during WWII in the Merchant Marines. He went on to ship out with Gulf and Texaco, retiring as an engineer. He served on the Labor Negotiation Committee with Texaco. Billy enjoyed farming and ranching as well as hunting and fishing. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Woodville where he and his wife Ella enjoyed visiting the shut ins. He was a member of the Woodville Magnolia Masonic Lodge #495 AF AM as well as the Woodville Eastern Star Chapter #462.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.W. and Neva Tindel; wife of 64 years, Ella Mae Tindel; son, Greg Tindel; daughter, Beth Ella Tindel Thompson and husband, Robert; grandson, Matthew Bernhardt; brothers, Zeb Tindel, Seaborn Tindel, Bob Tindel, Coy Tindel, Quentin Tindel, and John Tindel; sisters, Grace Brownlow, and Evangel Beckham.
He is survived by his son, David Tindel and wife Sue of Kountze; daughters, Debbie Tindel Freeman Howeth and husband Chris of Woodville, and Sharon Tindel Creed and husband Jerry of Spring; daughter-in-law, Melinda Tindel Nash and husband Pat of Georgetown; former son-in-law, Kenneth Freeman of Colmesneil; grandchildren, Kasey Freeman, Emily Tallman and husband Scott, Jeremy Creed and wife, Megean, Whitney Freeman, Allison Tindel, Dylan Tindel and wife, Melina, Erica Toole and husband Jeremy, Joshua Tindel and wife Crystal, Mackenzie Morehouse and husband Chance, and Courtney Walker and husband Milan; great grandchildren, Jordan Pulliam and wife Haley, Hattie Freeman, Marcus Bass, Lincoln Tallman, Jack Tallman, Parker Ella Marie Creed, Cooper Reese Creed, Camden Toole, Kinley Toole, Stetson Morehouse, Colin Tindel, Angel Tindel, and Amara Tindel; great-great grandchild, Ella Jay Pulliam; and numerous other family and friends.
