WOODVILLE – The old Woodville Intermediate School campus on Charlton Street is now home to a Boys and Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas “Texas ACE” 21st century afterschool program.
The ACE program, which stands for Afterschool Centers on Education, offers a variety of services for youngsters in first through fifth grades. According to Jose Vazquez, of the Boys and Girls Clubs’ Nacogdoches headquarters, students can join in afterschool “for a safe, engaging place to learn, grow and succeed.”
Vazquez said students can get support with homework, explore new interests and take part in exciting activities every day.
The program is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers program (CCLC). The program utilizes the old Woodville ISD Intermediate multi-purpose building.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas mission statement declares that children are “the very essence of the future,” according to its website.
“As the leading youth organization in the Deep East Texas area, we go above and beyond to provide our youth an empowering environment where they can fully embrace their identity and gain all the skills they need to be leaders tomorrow,” the mission statement also cited.
Vazquez said the program offers a variety of academic support, creative arts, STEM activities, sports and recreation, as well as leadership opportunities.
The registration is free for all Woodville Elementary students, and can be completed online at: https://bgcdeepeasttexas.my.site.com/portal/s/login/.
