COLDSPRING — The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD discussed its district improvement plan for the new fiscal year, focusing on fiscal, academic and instructional goals while keeping the public informed and involved.
At the Sept. 28 meeting, Lanie Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, delivered a presentation highlighting the district's intentions for academic progression.
Smith stated that there are six goals that are grounded in the 2025-2026 data which are academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, community engagement and partnership, human capital development, safe and supportive learning environment, and social-emotional learning and student support.
“The theme this year is ‘progress doesn’t pause,’” she said.
Smith said the goal for this improvement plan is to continue the momentum from last year while addressing areas that need more focus.
Key strategies from the improvement plan include teacher-led student goal setting for STAAR in every tested grade or course on all three campuses, short-cycle assessments and mid-semester exam as common checkpoints to monitor MEETS progress, a district-wide mid-year progress review, and monitor the Lincoln Junior High turnaround plan at each checkpoint.
Smith stressed that math will continue to be a key focus across campuses, especially for Coldspring Intermediate School. Other goals for COCISD include family engagement, attendance, and teacher retention.
“We’re going to be monitoring ever grade period,” Smith said regarding next steps. District-wide mid-year progress review against every rating and goal target will expected to take place in January 2027.
