COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court approve several rehires to help the Sheriff’s Office as it looks to put Operation Lone Star grant funds to use and get officers in the field.

Logan Gregory and Jane Cooksey were rehired for different tasks at the Wednesday meeting.

The court also approved the purchase of several items of equipment for the Sheriff’s Office, including five Dell laptops for patrol vehicles for $10,000; five trackers to be placed on vehicles; four thermal binoculars with laser rangefinders; and software from Motorola.

The software is used to operate monitoring equipment that is placed on freeways, according to Chief Deputy Stan Jolly.

Jolly also said that a contract for Guard 1 inmate monitoring items didn’t make it on the agenda, and approval was necessary because he said the original contract was done illegally. The court went into closed session to discuss the contract and approved it directly after.

The county then approved necessary resolutions for purchases under the Operation Lone Star grant.

In other business, the county:

  • approved an application and a $1,636 fee for the Texas Forest Country Partnership for a free trade zone;
  • declared a Ford F-750 dump truck and a Dodge 4500 Diesel truck as surplus to be sold at auction;
  • declared various pieces of office equipment as surplus; and
  • declared various pieces of computer equipment as salvage.
