County to review drought index prior to July 4

The Polk County Commissioners Court will discuss the status of the drought index in Polk County and consider action to regulate the use of certain fireworks for the July Fourth firework season during its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A proposal for an employee health clinic will be reviewed, discussed and considered for action.

The Court will discuss and consider the appointment of a committee to review the employee service awards program.

A resolution authorizing a budget amendment for maintenance capital outlay buildings for unanticipated repairs at the Polk County Jail will be discussed and considered for approval. In related activity, the Court will consider action related to expenditures from maintenance capital outlay buildings (budgeted funds) for renovation at the jail in the amount of $10,000.

The Court will consider approval to advertise for bids to replace the driveway and add handicapped-accessible parking spaces at the Polk County Memorial Museum and determine the method of funding.

As Veterans Day on Nov. 11 is a county holiday, the court will consider action related to rescheduling the regular court session set for Nov. 11.

Several items are on the agenda regarding personnel matters. The Court will review and consider personnel action form requests submitted by department heads since the last meeting, review any authorized emergency hires and consider approval to reclassify the Human Resources Secretary II to Office Manager.

Additionally, the Court will discuss and consider action relating to Precinct 4 Road & Bridge requests to add a Foreman II position and to use discretionary funds for a one-time bonus.

Fiscal year 2025 budget revisions and amendments, as presented by the county auditor’s office, will be considered for approval.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• Approve minutes of the May 27 regular meeting;

• Approve schedules of bills;

• Approve order designating surplus property;

• Receive and record personnel action forms submitted by elected officials since the last meeting;

• Receive and record the Polk County Tax Office audit report dated May 30;

• Approve agreement with Certified Payments for credit card processing in the sheriff’s office;

• Accept reimbursement for Texas severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding (DR-4781) emergency protective measures (Cat A) expenses from Texas Department of Emergency Management;

• Approved amended resolution authorizing an emergency expenditure and budget amendment for replacement of the chiller at the adult probation facility;

• Approve rural training lab grant memorandum of understanding between Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas, Lamar Institute of Technology and Polk County for emergency medical technician training program;

• Ratify approval of temporary access to Onalaska ISD for logging access through Polk County land situated on Onalaska Loop in Precinct 2; and

• Approve reassignment of office space in county-owned buildings.
