DAM B –The Dam B Community Watch had another year filled with speakers, events, and continued support for the Dam B/Town Bluff area.
The speakers list was extensive, leading off with Tyler County Judge Milton Powers in January. Presentations ranged from detailed briefings of the progress of construction of the new Hwy 190 bridge from Bryce Broussard, TxDOT's Area Engineer, discussions of Tyler County's finances by LeAnn Monk, County Treasurer, to special recipes for diabetics for holiday eating from Marianne Pate.
Other highlights included visits from Judge Delinda Gibbs-Walker, Sheriff Brian Weatherford, Sheriff Deputies Stephan Holloway and Cory Leblanc, JP Tina Self, Constable Tony Reynolds, Paula Nash of the District Attorney's Office, and Terry Allen and Stephanie Smith of the Tyler County Child Welfare Board and the Angel Tree program. Additionally, Ky Griffin of Stringer-Griffin, Susan Steele of AirMed, Jennifer Johnston-Gatlin of Gentiva Hospice and Jo Marlow of Brazos Transport provided valuable information to our group.
We had a couple of special presentations, with Alden Mann of Texas Parks and Wildlife bringing a large mobil animal display, and The Tyler County Booster's own Chris Edwards speaking to us on the importance of community newspapers. We are thankful and grateful to all our speakers.
The Community Watch presents a scholarship to a deserving High School graduate each year, and this year we welcomed back Kamyra White our 2024 recipient and celebrated Marrisah Shird our 2025 recipient.
In addition to speakers and meetings, the group participated in a number of community events. In April, we had the Dam B Community Festival, which featured singer Christina Greenwood. August saw the arrival of our first ever new Fire Truck at Dam B VFD. November celebrated adding a new flagpole for the Dam B Substation, and in December we decorated our new flagpole with the community Christmas Tree.
The Community Watch honored our long time Secretary Jan Johnson as she stepped down and Angie Collins was elected to serve in her stead.
It was a great year. We are looking to maintain our momentum going into 2026. We meet every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church on Hwy. 92. Come join us.
