Edwin “Ed” King, 57, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Indiana.
Ed was born on October 10, 1967 in Belding, Michigan, the son of David Dean and Mary Catherine (Schutte) King. Ed was a 1987 graduate of Warren High School in Warren. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, the Southwest Asia Theater, Operation Sea Angel in Bangladesh, Operation Restore Hope, and in Somalia. While in the service he received his Associate Degree in Solid state Electronics. He married the love of his life Edith Jean Furlong on July 16, 1994 in Fred. They were happily married for over 30 years.
Ed worked as a Butchers assistant at Tom’s meat market in Spurger as a teenager and then in the Navy as an Electrician’s Mate on his ship, the USS JUNEAU (LPD-10) and then, as an Industrial Electrician at Baxter Pharmaceutical in Bloomington for over fifteen years before retiring in 2017.
Ed was a member of the V.F.W. in Silsbee, and the American Legion Post 18 in Bloomington. Ed was a devoted husband and loving father. He loved spending time with his family, was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking on the nature trails, magnet fishing, and reading. He was a gun and knife enthusiast and often enjoyed working with leather, making handmade holsters. One of his favorite activities was taking things apart with his son to show him how things worked. He will be terribly missed by not only his family, but by the numerous friends who also loved him and shared their lives with him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Edith King of Bedford; two children, Kaitlyn (Jesse) King-Horsting of St. Anthony, Indiana; Kaleb (Caitlyn) King of Bedford; his Mother, Mary “Katie” (Kris) Tarver- Napier of Fred, TX; his mother-in-law, Jean Furlong of Unionville; his sister-in-law Pamela Backstrom (Iowa); his sister-in-law Brenda Voisard (Ohio); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Dean King; his stepfather, James Larry Tarver; his father-in-law, Daniel Furlong; and his sister-in-law, Christine Chandler, and his grandparents.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to time-of-service Tuesday, November 19, 2024 also at the funeral home.
