SOUTHEAST TEXAS – A new program has been established in the region to help senior citizens, ages 60 and older, with food.
The “Senior Box Program,” was set up under the USDA, and serves seniors in an eight-county region, of Tyler; Hardin; Polk; Newton; Sabine; Jasper; Orange and Jefferson counties. Each month participants will be delivered a box that will contain shelf-stable milk; cereal or oatmeal; rice or pasta; canned fruits and vegetable; peanut butter or beans; canned meat, such as chicken and tuna and cheese.
To qualify, seniors must be age 60 or older, meet income guidelines and live in one of the counties in which the program services.
