Women’s League of San Jacinto County was treated to a presentation by Coldspring Mayor John Benestante and Marsha Strickland last Thursday. The theme was Utilizing Travel and Tourism for Positive Economic Impact. Stress was placed upon beautification of the city and making sure to empower businesses, leaders and residents while attracting visitors to our community.

Both speakers pointed out areas where advances could be made. The Jailhouse Museum and adjacent buildings were mentioned as well as the future new building to replace the present Community Center near the Courthouse.

This is in the planning stage and will take a year to manifest but it will be larger with a second story. The Coldspring City Council is working with an architect and other professionals, and we will see more details as they become known.

The Women’s League is busy organizing its annual Style Show to be held on April 10 at the Community Shelter. Tickets can be bought at the Senior Center for $25. A silent auction is already collecting wonderful donations, Chico will supply the fashions and members of the League will model them. All money raised is used for scholarships and local charities and organizations.

• The SJC Master Gardeners is hosting a Petals and Pathways Garden Tour on April 19 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be bought at the Coldspring Community Center on the day; the garden next door is the first place to visit. A map will guide you to the other local gardens and the tour ends at The Carriage House Farm and Vineyard at 3 p.m. If you buy a ticket before the day, you will pay $10. Facebook shows more details on their page.
