George Hensley Jarrott, 79, of Woodville, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Pinecrest Assisted Living Center in Lufkin, Texas.
The funeral began at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Woodville Methodist Church. Following the service, George’s family received friends and family at the Wesley Center. Officiating was Rev. Doug Wintermute.
George was born August 6, 1947 to William S. “Bill” and Floy Hensley Jarrott in Woodville, Texas. A lifelong resident of Tyler County, he was a 1965 graduate of Kirby High School and a 1967 graduate of Tyler Junior College. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Texas in 1970. He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Dixie Ogden Jarrott on January 27, 1968 and then moved back to Woodville to follow in his father’s footsteps to work and later own Jarrott’s Pharmacy that was established in 1952. George was a lifelong member of Woodville Methodist Church where he served the church in numerous capacities, including Trustee on the Administrative Board, Sunday School teacher, and the Wee Wisdom Board. He was devoted to his church family and faithfully gave of his time, talents, and leadership to support the ministry and its members. In recognition of his many years of dedicated service, he was honored with the church's Heritage Award in 2016. He devoted many years of service to Woodville schools, serving on the Board of Trustees, including several terms as Board President. A lifelong sports fan, he was a familiar and enthusiastic presence at athletic events where he proudly supported students and the teams he loved. George served in many capacities in the Tyler County Dogwood Festival. As a child he served as the scepter bearer and upon returning to Woodville he devoted many years to the festival, serving first as Parade Director and later as Executive Director. As a member of the Permanent Board of Directors, he helped carry forward a beloved Tyler County tradition. In 1985 he received the James E. Wheat Award for his service. George was a long time Rotarian and dedicated member of Rotary International where he was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award in 2006. He served as the President of the Tyler County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Citizens State Bank Board of Directors and a member of the Tyler County Industrial Corporation Board. He was a life member of the University of Texas Ex-Students Association and served on the Tyler County Texas Ex’s Association. George was an inaugural member of the Lettermen’s Club of WHS as well as a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. He was also an active umpire and coach of the Tyler County Little League and also refereed high school basketball games for many years.
While he was deeply committed to serving others, he also knew how to enjoy life. He loved being on the golf course, standing behind the plate as a baseball umpire, and supporting his beloved Longhorns. He never missed an opportunity to show up for the people he held dear. Whether it was cheering for his grandchildren at a sporting event or activity, filling a prescription after hours for someone in need, he was known for his quiet generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Floy Jarrott.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dixie Ogden Jarrott of Woodville; son, Cody Allen Jarrott and wife Joanna of Woodville; daughter Julie Anna Jarrott McGehee and husband Heath of Idalou; grandchildren, Price Jarrott McGehee, Ben Edward McGehee and wife Carli, Drew Heath McGehee and wife Kate, Allie Anna Jarrott, Meghan Elizabeth McGehee, Rex Walker McGehee and wife Jaycie, Mollie Kate Jarrott, and Hollie Ogden Jarrott; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Jarrott Rosen of The Woodlands and Cindy Jarrott Wiegand and husband Forrest of La Porte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
