Goodrich looks to appoint alderman

The Goodrich City Council discussed an RV park, road conditions and a alderman seat opening in their regular gathering for June.

Ponderosa RV Park, which is located directly behind the Goodrich Community Center, was approved for expanding to 100 total RV-only sites. At this time, they were approved for 40 sites with 30 tiny houses.

Utility maintenance said the park does not have tiny homes, and instead wish to create more RV sites.

“From everything that we’ve researched, talking to engineers, obviously tiny houses are going to put out more water than the RVs,” Utility manager Shannon Goins said. “RVs don’t really put a lot of water. They’re requesting an additional 30 sites. Really, it’s not going to hinder you in any way as far as an additional 30 sites.

Goins said when calculations are figured for city utilities, it allows for 100-120 gallons per person per day. But in RVs, it averages around 30 gallons per person per day. He said storm drainage at the park would be something to take into consideration. There is both a creek and a pond on the property.

Council commented on how clean and nice conditions are at the park. Goodrich Mayor Kelly Nelson mentioned the possibility of holding a fishing tournament at the pond as an activity for the children in the park.

The additional spots were approved as RV-only, meaning the park cannot place the tiny homes that would require additional usage.

Goins also mentioned problems on Pennington Road that connects Highway 59 to Windham Ranch Road. He said the potholes have become an issue, where there are six to eight in need of repair.

Mary Orozco in Alderman Position No. 3 has resigned due to health issues. The council is looking for someone to appoint for the remainder of her term. Requirements are residing within the city limits for the past six months and the ability to pass a background check.

Paperwork has been completed on the grant for the wastewater ponds as of three weeks ago. The process is ongoing, and a survey has been completed. Nelson said “hopefully soon” the city would learn if they have been chosen.
